SWEDISH DOUBLE INTERLOCKED TAPESTRIES RÖLAKAN
The majority of these presented pictures were originally included in Viveka Hansen’s book Textila Kubar och Blixtar: Rölakanets konst- och Kulturhistoria (1992), whilst some pictures only have been part of the connected research material.
Photographs taken between 1985 and 1991. 18th and 19th century colourful cushions and bedcovers woven in double interlocked tapestry (rölakan) from southernmost Sweden – a branch of textile history which has been deeply intertwined with widespread geographical design traditions over many centuries.
